Semester Ending

Posted by calculustutor at 02:25 PM on May 14, 2007

May 14, 2007

Dear Parents:

Some important notes:

1.       From now to early July, please call my other cell phone number at

2.       I will be on vacation from May 23 to May 28.  All classes during that period will be cancelled.

3.       My son will be back from college this weekend to May 29.  If you would like to have your kids to meet my son and learn Rubik?s cube (as the clip shown in my web site http://www.satmath.org/recommendedlinks.htm), please contact me.  I will arrange time for the kids to meet and of course, no charge.  He also has 100% in Sat I and Sat II Math and scored 5/5 in both AP Calculus AB and BC in Junior High year.

4.       Also, please start to consider the summer session which I plan to have a few students (a small size group) in a room to study the ACT and SAT math.  I am planning to start the session from July 9 to August 18 (6 weeks) and two days a week.  Each is 1.5 hours.  If I have five students for instance, each pays $60 a week (instead of the regular rate of $90/3 hrs) to layout the math foundation that we cannot do during busy semesters.  You can put down $60 deposit to reserve the seats.  If I don?t reach more than three to four students, class maybe cancelled and deposit will be returned. The fee varied by the size of the class.  Please see http://www.satmath.org/rates.htm .

5.       Final exam is approaching.  Please make sure you don?t miss the class or late to the class.  If there is a cancellation, please notify ASAP since I still have students on the waiting list.

6.       After all, Thank you parents for having been so dedicated to the students and the classes.

Sincerely,

Jim Chyou

ACT Calculators

Posted by calculustutor at 10:05 PM on February 09, 2007

Dear Parents:

Here is the link about ACT approved calculators.  http://www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/sat/testday/calc.html   I encourage you to have the calculators ready for the students ASAP (in lieu of buying it days prior to the exam) so they can get acquainted with the calculators.  Students procuring the calculators too late often spent a lot of unnecessary time just trying to find the right buttons during the exam.

There is now a wide range of approved calculators.  I also suggest to purchase the one that has the graphing capability that will be used in Algebra II and pre cal.

Have a nice weekemd!

New Hopes

Feb 1, 2007

Dear Parents:

New semester commences and so do our hopes for better academic achievement.  I would like to thank all you parents who not only dedicate yourself to the students also go one step further to advance them to the next level of excellence.

As I stated in my web site, http://www.satmath.org/,  Sooner   >  Later  >  Never

According to www.salary.com, ?Any way you measure it, a college degree is the best investment of your life. In today's dollars, a bachelor's degree is worth more than $2.1 million over 40 years. "Having that post-secondary diploma can make such a difference in lifetime earnings," said Washington, D.C.-based Employment Policy Foundation President Ed Potter.

Finally, we have all the schedules fixed, I think.  Thank you all for the cooperation and patience.  As you may know, my rate has increased a couple times but this won?t stop people from requesting to come to my tutoring class.   I have stopped accepting new students for this semester (Yes, I keep receiving, phone calls, emails for enrolling?).  Therefore, I sincerely ask your help to affix to your schedule.  If there is any emergency or circumstances that are out of your control, I would like to hear from you earlier so I can utilize that time for other kids that are desperate for some classes.  For other non-emergency change requests, I wish to know them one week in advance.

Most of the requests for PSAT/ACT/SAT test prep were not taken until the summer.  So, please also consider utilizing the summer vacation to sharpen their math skills.  I recommend summer since this will not conflict with the regular school academic and extra curriculum activities. My experience is that students having been in my class, improved their PSAT/SAT/ACT scores by 25% to 150%. This is a great investment.  Please keep that in mind that the summer ACT/SAT class will have multiple students in a room and hence the rate is lower.  Please see http://www.satmath.org/rates.htm.

Let?s continue to work together to help our students.

Neopets

Posted by calculustutor at 09:28 AM on May 28, 2006
There are complains about http://neopets.com/ shutting down the accounts by accusing various ?violations? like multiple accounts, posting language?  As a parent, I feel it?s abusing kids.  Most of the allegations are untrue and neopets is just negligently closing the accounts and hurts the young generation.  So, if you are playing , stop.  If you don?t stop, there are some kids that are willing to sell the mutli million nps accounts so they can stop.  Contact me.
